Help Stormwater Flow by Keeping Ditches Clear

storm_drain

As the weather continues to warm up, it is important to pay attention to the condition of the catch basins and ditches along your property. Maintenance of these items are essential to the efficient flow of stormwater and prevention of flooding. Catch basins and ditches are the entrance points for stormwater as it travels to local waterways. How can you help keep the flow going?

  • Keep ditches clear of leaves, sticks, trash, grass clippings, debris, etc. so the stormwater can move freely into the pipes. If these are not kept clear, the risk of flooding greatly increases. It is the resident’s responsibility to keep ditches clear.
  • Mow your ditches and keep them free of weeds.
  • Do not block catch basins. Keep clear of leaves, sticks, trash, trash cans, flower pots, etc. so stormwater can easily flow into the catch basin and make its way to local waterways.
  • See example of well-maintained ditch below.

Thank you for helping the City of Hudson manage the flow of stormwater.
