• must be at least 18 years of age; 
• must be a high school graduate or equivalent; 
• must be in good health and able to pass physical, drug and psychological screenings administered through the City’s application process at no cost to applicants; 
• must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and acceptable driving record; 
• must not have any criminal record; 
• will be required to sign a release for a complete background investigation to include inquiries into criminal history, driver’s license and driving record, law enforcement records, employment history and performance, and any other checks deemed necessary; 
• applicants who successfully pass the background investigation may be called for a panel interview; and
• selected candidates will be required to submit to medical, psychological, and drug tests provided by the City prior to appointment. 

• patrol the business and residential areas of the City in marked cruisers; 

• assist Patrol Officers as directed; 

• provide help to motorists and disabled vehicles; 

• issue parking citations where appropriate; 

• perform exterior home checks for vacationing residents; 

• check on the safety, security, and well-being of senior citizens enrolled in the Senior Watch Program; 

• assist Hudson Fire Department and EMS on calls; 

• handle motor vehicle and residential lockouts; 

• assist Officers with prisoner booking and/or transports as requested; 

• update business emergency contacts; 

• patrol commercial districts on foot and conduct building security checks after business hours; 

• participate in the Hudson Memorial Day parade, annual fireworks, and various community public relations events; 

• provide traffic control at accident scenes and during road construction; 

• handle parking for special events; and 

• assist with occasional paid security and/or traffic details for Hudson schools, companies, and other organizations.

Successful candidates appointed as Auxiliary Officers for the City of Hudson will be expected to: 

• understand and comply with the Rules and Regulations / Policies and Procedures Manual for the Hudson Police Department and with those outlined specifically for the Auxiliary Police Unit; 

• adhere to the Mission Statement and Code of Ethics established for the Department; 

• voluntarily dedicate a minimum of 12 hours per month to the Unit; current Auxiliary Unit activities include duties scheduled on a rotating basis as well as various patrol responsibilities; 

• participate in public service fingerprinting on occasional Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings; 

• supervise and monitor juvenile offenders assigned to community service work through the Juvenile Diversion Program on occasional Saturday mornings; 

• patrol throughout the City and assist with service calls as necessary. Police cruisers may be utilized by Auxiliary Officers after successfully completing an internal training program and 24 hours of ride-along time with Patrol Officers and/or qualified Auxiliaries; and 

• make a minimum one-year commitment of participation with this Unit, in fairness to the expense incurred in selecting, training, and equipping new Auxiliary Officers.
