New lights on Darrow Road are already shining as the second phase of the Darrow Road Lighting Project is almost complete. Hudson Public Power (HPP) installed light poles from Georgetown Road to just before Norton Road to provide better visibility and safer driving conditions for motorists. Seven additional poles will be installed up to the Norton Road and SR 91 intersection once the SR 91 & Norton Road Improvement Project is complete.
LED fixtures were used due to their many benefits. They are more energy efficient, using 15 percent of the energy of an incandescent bulb while generating more light per watt. They require less maintenance, will last up to 10 times longer, and are more durable than traditional street lamps.
The first phase of the project included installing LED lights between Barlow Road and Georgetown Road and was completed in 2015. HPP is also working to convert all Hudson street lamps to LED fixtures, on an as-needed basis. The increased visibility and energy efficiency of the new LED lights are a welcome addition to Darrow Road.
