[ARCHIVED] HCTV Captures Veterans Stories

veteran

Hudson Community TV captured the fascinating oral histories of 11 veterans who now live in Hudson. HCTV collaborated with the Laurel Lake community and Frank Youngwerth, host of Good Day Hudson, on the project. HCTV has recorded oral histories of various residents in Hudson, but this is the first series to focus on United States veterans, starting with the World War II generation.

All involved in the project expressed how important it is to catch and document the information our veterans have to share so their efforts to keep our country free will never be forgotten. They shared how inspiring it was to hear the veterans' stories and how even though some did not see combat, they were just as important to the war effort as those who fought in major battles.

HCTV filmed for two full days at Laurel Lake and photographed archive photos and items provided by the veterans which will be included in the recordings. The project will be submitted to the Library of Congress’ Veterans Project archives once complete. The first show airs Monday, September 19 at 7 p.m. and features Ralph Day who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The second interview will air at 7:30 p.m. and features Joe Meagher who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

The same interviews will replay at 7 p.m. September 20, September 23, and at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on September 25. Two new interviews will debut each week. Tune in to channel 15/96.15 or online to watch these fascinating stories.
