Hudson residents have been receiving scam calls from scammers claiming to be with Ohio Edison. The caller threatens to shut off the customer’s power unless immediate payment is made. Sometimes, the customer is told to use a pre-paid debit card or a money transfer for payment.
Ohio Edison representatives do not demand payment or bank or credit card information over the phone. They also do not accept prepaid debit cards or wire transfers as forms of payment. Past due accounts are notified via written notice with instructions on how to avoid disconnection of service.
If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately. Visit the Power Shut Off Scams section on the Ohio Edison website for more information.
