Help restore Ohio’s native vegetation and improve the water quality and health of our lakes and streams by including a Native Plant Garden in your landscaping plan. Native plants are not only beautiful, but are accustomed to the Northeast Ohio climate and soil, allowing them to thrive with little to no fertilizer. You will not only save money on chemical applications, but you will help improve storm water quality by keeping extra nutrients and pollutants out of our waterways. These plants provide a habitat for beneficial native insects and other wildlife, and no pesticides or herbicides are needed. Once established, they require little maintenance.
The Summit Soil and Water Conservation District is selling several types of native plant kits this spring. Each kit contains 50 native plant plugs and costs $125. There are 7 types of kits available, with 10 varieties of native plants in each kit. Plant order forms and kit descriptions are available on the City of Hudson website. Order forms and payment are due March 2, 2017. Questions? Call the Summit Soil and Water Conservation District office at 330-926-2452. Happy planting!
