Do you know what your stormwater fee is used for? The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) uses the funding to protect and preserve the Regional Stormwater System through its Stormwater Management Program. Flooding, pollution, and erosion problems are all things NEORSD strives to prevent. To accomplish this, NEORSD performs inspections, maintenance, and emergency repairs on the Regional Stormwater System assets. NEORSD builds projects, maintains streams and the large pipes that carry stormwater, as well as performs rigorous water-quality monitoring. You may see them from time to time in your creek making repairs or performing inspections. Not sure if your property is in the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District? Check the map.
Did you know you can help NEORSD move towards the goal of fewer flooding incidents and healthier waterways AND receive credit for such efforts? Customers can apply to receive a reduction in their stormwater fees if they take measures to reduce the stormwater volume or minimize the pollutants flowing from their properties. Here are just some of the ways you can help:
- Plant a rain garden
- On-site stormwater storage (rain barrels, cisterns, etc.)
- Vegetated filter strips
- Pervious pavement
- Impervious surface reduction
