We are quickly approaching orange barrel season in Hudson, and some construction has already started due to random breaks in our lovely Ohio weather! The City has many projects planned this year to continuously improve Hudson infrastructure for our citizens. Here are a few of the larger projects coming up:
North Main Street Improvement Project: Hudson’s North Main Street Improvement Project will continue this year, starting up again Monday, March 13 (click here for details). The project includes replacement of aging infrastructure and improvements to the streetscape in front of the stores. The project is expected to be completed this year.
Barlow Road Improvements: Hudson’s Barlow Road Improvements will continue in 2017. The Barlow Road railroad crossing will be re-graded to make for a more level, safer transition from the road to crossing the tracks. The railroad crossing will be closed for up to 120 days from April through August 2017 to allow for construction.
A traffic signal is also being installed at the Barlow Road and Terex Road intersection to allow for safer travel. The signal work is expected to begin in April 2017 for two to three weeks to prepare the site. There will be a period of 3 to 4 months with no work to allow for the signal pole and arm to be manufactured. Once the equipment is delivered, it will take 2 to 3 weeks to install the signal.
SR 91 and Norton Road Improvement Project: The City of Stow’s SR 91 and Norton Road Improvement Project will continue through Fall 2017. The remaining work includes widening at SR 91/Norton this spring and summer. Final paving is expected to take place in August or September this year. Two-way traffic will continue to be maintained unless otherwise notified, but delays should be expected in this area until completion of the project.
SR 91 and Prospect Street Intersection Improvements: A traffic signal will be installed at the SR 91 and Prospect Street intersection this year. Construction will begin Spring 2017 and will be completed this fall. The project includes installing a new traffic signal to replace the temporary traffic signal, improving the pavement, and bicycle and pedestrian access. In addition, the project will improve lane widths, bike lanes (on SR 91), sidewalks, storm sewer, streetlights, pavement markings, and signage.
Manor Drive Water Improvements: A new water main and storm sewer will be installed on Manor Drive, from SR 303 south to the cul-de-sac, this summer. The roadway will also be resurfaced this fall. It was determined by a waterline ranking study that this area was most in need of repairs within the Hudson water system.
Akron Water Project on Stow Road: The Akron Water Department will install a new emergency connection and meter on the Akron water main on Stow Road north of Weston Drive to Barlow Road. This work is expected to take place in 2017.
Middleton Road Sanitary Sewer Project: Summit County DOSSS has started work to replace an 8-foot sanitary sewer line on the north side of Middleton Road between Darrow and Stow Roads. The work will take 4 to 5 months and is expected to be completed in the fall. Traffic will be maintained.
