rain barrel

The September 23 Hudson Farmers Market is going green! Saturday, September 23 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. is Environment Day at the Market, and the Environmental Awareness Committee (EAC) will be there with several fun activities:

10 a.m. Rain Barrel Workshop – Learn how to make your own rain barrel, how to use it, and how it is a great way to conserve water. Participants will take home the rain barrel they assemble. Register for the workshop by Friday, September 22 by sending the participant agreement to Sonya Mottram via email or call 330-342-1750 – spots are limited. The cost is $60 and includes rain barrel with overflow connection. The workshop will be held at the Farmers Market, but will be moved to Barlow Community Center if it rains.

10 a.m. Storm Water Credit Presentation: Rachel Webb will present information about how to receive storm water credits from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District. Simple things such as using a rain barrel, planting a rain garden, and more can earn you credits on your NEORSD bill!

12:00 p.m. Tour of the Barlow Community Center Solar Training Facility – Meet the EAC by the main Hudson Farmers Market information tent and head over to take a tour of this fascinating facility. It offers valuable training to public power utilities and fire departments to learn how to safely install and work with solar panels and systems to avoid common hazards. The facility also serves as a learning tool to educate Hudson residents and schools about the benefits of solar energy. Don’t miss the tour! Learn more about the facility...

12:00 p.m. Rain Barrel Raffle – The City of Hudson is raffling off a rain barrel hand-painted by Hudson High School students! Buy your $1 tickets to enter the raffle prior to noon at the EAC table at the Farmers Market, or at Hudson Visitors Center any time before September 23.

Visit the Environmental Awareness Committee booth to learn how you can participate in Keep Hudson Beautiful, a Keep America Beautiful affiliate that has the goal of improving and beautifying the community.
