Hudson’s annual residential leaf collection will begin the week of October 23 with the Northeast Quadrant. With some leaves falling now, residents have several options for leaf disposal prior to the beginning of the City’s program.
The best way, which is most beneficial to lawns, is to mulch the leaves in place. With a mulching mower, leaves are cut into very small pieces, which then are broken down by micro-organisms that live in the soil. Mulching leaves can reduce the occurrence of weeds and the need to use weed control products, as well as provide nutrients that help the soil and grass. Leaves also can be used as mulch for landscaped flower beds.
Another option for residents is to bag the leaves and have their private trash hauler dispose of the bags.
