Thanks to several local organizations, approximately 85 Hudson families and senior citizens in need were able to have a Thanksgiving dinner last week! Hudson Fire Department members, Hudson City Schools employees, and volunteers helped distribute items from the Annual Holiday Food Drive. Each family received a $25 Giant Eagle gift card, a $30 ACME gift card, a complete turkey dinner, one box of canned food, several boxes of dry goods, bags of paper and miscellaneous products, and the ability to get an additional $40 Acme gift card for use in December.
“We are thankful that we were able to help put smiles on so many faces this year,” said Hudson Fire/EMS Chief Jerry Varnes. “This is one small example of why we do what we do.”
Hudson City Schools, at the direction of Social Worker Julie Schultz, collaborated with students, staff, and various community organizations to collect and organize the food for distribution. The Giant Eagle gift cards were purchased with donations from City of Hudson employees, Hudson Fire Department members, Hudson Fire Department Association, and Giant Eagle. The ACME gift cards were purchased by Hudson City Schools and the other gift card was supplied by the Hudson Community Service Association. The turkey dinner totes were supplied by the Christ Community Chapel and laundry detergent donations were collected by Hudson Ministerial Association.
Thank you to everyone who donated time, food, items, and money to help these families have the holiday they deserve.
