Sponsored Ad Is Misinformed

Accountability Project

A sponsored ad, paid for by a group called Accountability Project OH and The Accountability Institute, is appearing across Facebook. Their assertions about the Community-Wide Fiber Committee and Council simply aren’t true. We don’t know if this is a legitimate group or not. Here are the facts:

  • Discussions about Community-Wide Internet are being done in public meetings that the public can attend and can listen to on our website.  Nothing is happening behind closed doors. Minutes and the audio of these meetings are available on our website: https://www.hudson.oh.us/Archive.aspx?AMID=93
  • No decisions have been made about whether the City will pursue residential internet. Council formed the Community-Wide Fiber Committee to further investigate the idea, analyze the need, and research possible ways to fund residential internet.
  • Council is waiting for a report from the Fiber Committee and then will discuss the idea further in public meetings.
  • Through all its discussions to date, Council has not been inclined to support a tax levy for residential broadband.
  • And, despite what the ad falsely states, Council knows it cannot increase taxes without a vote of the people.
  • If you want the facts or have questions, email us at info@hudson.oh.us.
