ReWorks Awards Hudson with Recycling Assistance Grant

CRAG Award

Each year, ReWorks designates a portion of its budget to provide a Community Recycling Assistance Grant (CRAG) to municipalities in Summit County. Each of the 31 municipalities in Summit County are eligible to receive funds to support ways to help their residents with diverting materials from landfills via methods including curbside recycling, recycling drop offs and yard waste collections (leaves, grass, mulch, etc.)

The City of Hudson receives $22,262 in grant funds from ReWorks’ CRAG program which is used to both pay for Hudson’s recycling drop-off center as well as fund seasonal employees for its curbside leaf collection service. $19,226 of this grant is allocated for 8 seasonal employees which assist with leaf collection.

Leaves collected are brought to Sagamore Soils, a Class IV Ohio EPA designated compost center. David A. Basil, Mayor of the City of Hudson stated, “Using these grant funds to help our residents keep material out of the landfill is a win-win situation. We help the environment and make our city a better place to live.”

Marcie Kress, Executive Director of ReWorks, said, “Increasing recycling and composting organic material ultimately means that we keep material that still has a viable use out of landfills.”

ReWorks is Summit County’s Solid Waste Management Authority. ReWorks provides solutions and leadership to empower Summit County communities, institutions, and businesses to develop and utilize environmentally sound, cost-effective recycling and waste management strategies.
