It’s not too late to participate in the Hudson Fire Department’s Fire Safe Seniors Program that provides fire safety products free to Hudson seniors age 65 and older. Installation of these products will begin this month and will continue while supplies last.
As part of the program, seniors are being offered free smoke detectors, bed shaker/strobes, secure key entry boxes for emergencies, and reflective house numbers.
To participate, simply call the Hudson Fire Department at 330-342-1860 and Firefighter John Douds will visit your home, do an assessment of your safety needs, and install the appropriate products. Residents can also register for the program online.
Trained to perform assessments and install the products, firefighter John Douds is a three-year veteran with the Hudson Fire Department and a second-generation Hudson firefighter who works alongside his father Tim Douds, a 37-year veteran Hudson firefighter and City employee. John Douds has been a seasonal employee for the Hudson Parks for the past three years while he completes his degree in Aeronautical Technologies and becomes a certified flight instructor at Kent State University.
The Fire Safe Seniors program is funded by a $47,000 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant from the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Families with hearing impaired special needs students in the Hudson City School system also are eligible for the program. The reflective address numbers are provided through EMS Outreach of Hudson. The program ends August 21, 2019.
If you are interested in signing up your home or the home of a loved one, contact the Hudson Fire Department at 330-342-1860 by August 21, 2019.
