The SR 91 North Turn Lane Project runs from Brandywine Drive north to Middleton Road. We are NOT WIDENING North Main Street in the downtown area. The project is part of City Council’s focus on improving the City roadways, and is designed to improve safety, reduce traffic congestion, provide better access for pedestrians and bicyclists, improve stormwater drainage, and improve the long-term condition of the pavement. As part of this project, left turn lanes will be added at Valley View, Herrick Park, and Hines Hill.
In addition to adding a left-turn lane in both directions that will increase safety and enhance the traffic flow along SR 91, the City will add bike lanes and a sidewalk on the east side to make it easier and safer for people to walk and bike along the roadway. To enhance stormwater drainage, an improved storm sewer system will be installed to capture, manage, and carry runoff out of the area. As part of the safety improvements, improved lighting will be installed at the intersections. In addition to the Hudson project, the City of Akron is installing a new water main as part of the project from Herrick Park Drive north to Middleton Road. Construction is scheduled to begin late this year and be completed in 2020.
