First & Main Supports Downtown Phase II

Today, we received the following letter from Randy Ruttenberg, Principal of Fairmount Properties and First & Main in support of Downtown Phase II.

On Saturday, October 9, 2004 Tom and Joy Murdough, along with Fairmount Properties and many Hudson citizens, celebrated the grand opening of First & Main in Hudson's treasured historic District. For the two years prior, the development team, along with City of Hudson officials and staff, hundreds of residents and other key stake holders had undergone a thoughtful; however, often, hotly debated process that helped to inform the final results for what started as a community vision-driven initiative and is now celebrating its 15th year in operation.

Topics such as parking, traffic, product type and operations were all discussed in open forums, resident's living rooms and of course, at many public meetings. From almost every perspective, we believe First & Main has been a success and appears to be enjoyed by many, both locally and regionally.

For communities such as Hudson to remain relevant, residentially, commercially and civically, they must offer up-to-date retail amenities, commercial space and the types of housing options today's young professionals and empty nesters desire. These particular residential options are lacking within this community and as a result, Hudson is losing longtime residents as well as potential new residents to other communities which are pursuing thoughtful new development.

During these types of campaigns, it's not uncommon for information to be misconstrued or perhaps even provided inaccurately. To make sure this doesn't continue, we wanted to make it clear that we support the Phase Two initiative and believes it will, in part, help sustain this wonderful community for generations by helping to keep Hudson's residents in Hudson, helping to attract new residents and by providing a vehicle to enhance the income tax base through new class A office space.

Respectfully submitted,
