Recently nearly 100 Hudson Scouts BSA, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and their families participated in the First Annual Scout Volunteer Day to cleanup Hudson Springs Park and Veteran’s Way Park.
Serving in partnership with the Hudson Parks Department and the Friends of Hudson Parks, the Scouts patrolled the parks collecting litter and debris. The participating Scouts were from Cub Scout Packs 3322 and 3327, Scouts BSA Troops 777 and 333, and Girl Scout Troops 90864, 90406 and 91285.
“We had a great turnout and it was wonderful to see so many Scouts and their families working together to help make our local parks beautiful,” stated Frank Griffiths of Cub Scouts Pack 3322.
Following the cleanup efforts, the Scouts were led on hikes and wildlife talks by naturalists from the Friends of Hudson Parks. Scouts who participated in the cleanup of Hudson Springs Park learned about salamanders and the group at Veteran’s Way Park focused on bees.
“This was a fantastic opportunity for our local Scouts to give back to their community and to learn about the wildlife all around us,” stated Griffiths.
The Scout groups plan to continue this event each spring.
