Phase I (First & Main) was designed to rejuvenate Main Street and support merchants/businesses with a vibrant mixed-use development.
Phase II was conceived as part of Phase I more than 20 years ago to support First & Main and Main Street with offices and housing. It would revitalize industrial downtown land and create a live-work-play environment.
In 2015, a citizen-based ad-hoc committee examined the Phase II vision and determined the office and housing needs in Downtown Phase II.
On May 7, voters were asked for their reaction to the Downtown Phase II plan. As a result, City Council will hold three community work sessions allowing residents to suggest modifications to the plan that could be considered by Council. The May/June sessions will allow people to provide input before they go away for the summer.
Rather than start over, Council is seeking proposed modifications to the current plan. Council will review the suggestions and work toward a financially viable plan that meets the community's needs.
