City Moving Forward on Brine Well Construction

Brine Well Construction

Authorized by City Council in February of 2019, the City is moving forward with construction of a brine well. Contractors have been working in preparation for construction of the well to be located off SR 303 near the City’s water treatment plant.

Brine, a water/salt mix, is used as a water softener to treat drinking water at the Hudson water treatment plant. Brine from the new well will be used in Hudson’s water treatment process. Construction began this month, with the well scheduled for completion this fall.

While its primary use will be for the water treatment process, the brine also would be used to treat roads in the winter. The brine well process essentially extracts salt from underground by mixing it with water. It is not an oil or gas well and will not produce petroleum hydrocarbons.

At the July 30th Council meeting, Council authorized entering into a contract for professional services to program, install, and test the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, a data monitoring system for the brine well. The required well information management system will integrate with the current communication devices at the water plant and allow staff to monitor and manage the brine well data.
