Once a decade, the U.S. government counts every resident in the United States. The count is mandated in the U.S. Constitution. Each home in all 50 states, District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire — online, by phone, or by mail. This is the first time you can respond to the Census online.
The Census counts population and households, providing the basis for reapportioning congressional seats, redistricting, and distributing federal funds annually to support states, counties, and communities’ vital programs.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, all homes will receive an invitation to participate by April 1, 2020. Everyone in the U.S. and its territories is required by law to be counted in the 2020 census. It’s important to remember that the Census Bureau will NEVER ask you for your social security number, money or donations, anything on behalf of a political party, or your banking or credit account information.
