Parks Master Plan to be Updated

At the December 17 Council meeting, Hudson City Council authorized Eppley Institute as a consultant to help prepare an updated Hudson Parks Master Plan. Originally conceived in 2000 and updated every five years, the Parks Master Plan is a guide that provides standards for levels of service and facilities and establishes priorities and an implementation strategy. In addition to inventorying current facilities and programs and analyzing use and demand, extensive citizen input is used to help determine priorities, levels of service, and community wants and needs. The last citizen survey was performed in 2009. Over the years, citizen needs and interests change, as well as operational procedures.

An online citizen survey is being conducted to gather input from residents about our parks. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete, but each question is important. Citizen input is needed for a community-driven approach to making decisions that will guide the future of Hudson parks system and facilities. Go to to take the survey.

After compiling and reviewing input from the survey and public meetings and interviews, a draft plan will be written. Once the draft is complete, the City will hold more public meetings and interviews to finalize the plan. After approval from the Park Board, City Council would need to approve the plan. The City anticipates having the final plan completed at the end of the first quarter of 2020.
