Middleton Road Update

Road Closed

This week, Middleton Road, just east of SR 91, is being lowered due to a sight distance safety concern. Middleton Road is closed just east of Darrow Road in order to complete the safety improvement. The sight distance issue occurs when westbound Middleton Road vehicles were approaching Darrow Road and a hill in the roadway blocked the drivers view of the intersection. The hill is being lowered to provide sufficient stopping sight distance ahead of the intersection.

The contractor is completing the lowering project as part of this year’s Annual Asphalt Program. The contractor has already removed the hill and is in the process of installing the new stone roadway base. Later this week, the new asphalt road and temporary striping will take place and the roadway will be reopened.

Middleton MillingAlso occurring this week is the milling (or surface grinding) of Middleton Road between Darrow Road and Stow Road. After Middleton Road is milled, any weak roadway spots will be repaired and manholes, catch basins, and metal valve lids in the roadway will be adjusted. The contractor will then install a thin layer of chip seal, which alleviates future cracking of the road surface, ahead of the final asphalt layers being installed.

During the resurfacing of Middleton Road, two way traffic will be maintained, but delays are to be expected. Middleton Road resurfacing is anticipated for completion by early May, weather permitting.
