On Tuesday, Hudson City Council approved a temporary Utility Relief Program for small businesses that are customers of Hudson-owned utilities (Hudson Public Power and Water). This program is intended to assist small businesses that have suffered significant revenue loss due to the COVID-19 crisis. The program is not intended for larger businesses or professional companies that have been able to remain in operation remotely. The program excludes home-based businesses.
The Utility Relief Program allows all qualifying small businesses to apply for up to a $200 credit toward their commercial Hudson Utility Account bills due in May and/or June of 2020. The $200 credit is a total amount toward the customer’s utility bill for both months, not two separate payments. Once approved for the program, small businesses will see the credit appear on their bill in the next billing cycle. All businesses that qualify for the program will receive the credit.
Small businesses may start applying for the Hudson Utility Relief Program beginning Monday, April 27, 2020. All applications must be received by June 10, 2020. Applicants should know the status of their application within five business days of submission.
To qualify, business owners must meet one of the following criteria:
If you are a business tenant applying for relief, you are responsible for notifying your landlord that you have applied for the Utility Relief Program. If your landlord receives utility relief, then you are responsible for asking your landlord to provide you or your company with a financial relief equivalent to that which the landlord saved on Hudson utility payments due to your application. The City of Hudson is not responsible for collecting on behalf of and/or guaranteeing that tenants, who are not the named holder of a Hudson utility account, receive a financial relief equivalent to that which their landlord may receive from this utility relief program. The City encourages all landlords to pass any utility savings to their small business tenants.
