[ARCHIVED] Police Chief Tabak Issues Statement on Level 3 Risk Alert and Wearing Face Coverings

Chief Perry Tabak

HUDSON, OH (July 10, 2020) – Hudson Police Chief Perry Tabak has released the following statement on the recent State mandate regarding wearing facial coverings in public.

“As many of you are aware, Summit County was labeled a high risk or Level 3 coronavirus area as defined by Governor DeWine’s recent health order. Level 3 status mandates that facial coverings be worn at all times including any indoor location that is not a residence. Although we support the initiative to wear a mask or face covering to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Hudson Police Department will not respond to calls related to persons not wearing masks/facial coverings unless there are other exigent circumstances.

In an effort not to overwhelm our dispatch center, we are asking the public not contact the Hudson Dispatch Center (911) with calls related to these health-related orders. As with previous health-related orders, if you have questions, concerns, and/or wish to file a complaint regarding persons not using masks or facial covers, you should direct your inquiry to Summit County Public Health. Their website is www.scph.org.

Businesses can require persons to wear a mask or facial covering. If a person refuses, the business has the right to ask that person to leave. If a person refuses to leave when asked, the Hudson Police Department will enforce any trespassing violations. This is not our preferred course of action, and we would ask for everyone’s cooperation.”

Thank you in advance for your assistance,

Chief Perry Tabak
