Correspondence and Council Comments

  • Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC). A Councilmember informed Council that the Western Land Conservancy has indicated an interest in acquiring the property around O’Brien Cemetery off Hudson Drive. WRLC will need a resolution from the City and Summit County Council to obtain Clean Ohio Conservation grant. Staff will be work with WRLC through the review and authorization process.

Discussion Items

  • Digital Marketing for Hudson Merchants. At a prior meeting, Council requested that the Hudson Chamber of Commerce submit a proposal for a digital marketing campaign for their discussion. The Chamber asked Council for $20,000 in support toward a campaign to help drive customers to Hudson shops and restaurants. A consultant, selected by the Chamber, provided information to Council.  The $20,000 would cover the cost of a two-month program of digital social media market and geofencing. According to the Chamber, the two-month program would be a trial. After the results are reviewed, the Chamber’s hope would be to continue the program.  Council indicated they would not necessarily be inclined to continue ongoing financial support for this campaign. The legislation will be placed on the March 2, 2020 agenda.
  • Downtown Development Survey Proposals.  After discussion about the process and the survey, Council felt they should proceed with Research Analytics Consulting, LLC regarding the downtown survey. The next step will be to schedule meetings with the consultant and City Council.

Legislative Items Discussed

  • Parks Master Plan Acceptance in Concept.Council asked questions regarding the Park Master Plan:
    1. Does the capital plan in the Master Plan line up with the recent park survey responses?
    2. In the Master Plan, the Park Board has asked for a seat at the table when the Comprehensive Plan is updated. Council had concerns about this being in the Master Plan that would be approved by Council in concept. Council members will provide additional questions to staff. Staff will seek answers from Park Board and bring this back to Council for discussion.

Other Items Discussed

  • Wood Debris in the Parks. Staff will be reviewing park practices for managing wood debris and will bring this information back to Council. Council asked this to be put on the 60-Day Tracker for future Council discussion.
  • Recreation Center.  Council asked this to be put on the 60-Day Tracker for future Council discussion.
