Council Highlights

HUDSON, OH (May 26, 2021) – Following is a summary of the May 25, 2021 City Council Workshop. To watch the full meeting, visit

Correspondence, Council Comments, City Manager Comments

  • Council Road Tour. Council thanked staff for last week’s road tour that gives Council the opportunity to look at the condition of Hudson streets. There is much work being done on roads with Council’s increased emphasis on improving road conditions throughout the City.

Discussion Items

  • Agricultural Use Regulations - Draft Land Development Code Amendment.  Council discussed possible Land Development Code amendments related to agricultural use regulations. Community Development presented proposed changes to the Land Development Code for various agriculture use issues. These included items like fencing, long narrow lots, raised flower beds, setbacks, coop houses, beehives, chickens, and roadside farmers’ stands, among others. Staff will come back to Council with formal recommendations based on Council’s input. The full list of items discussed are available in the staff report link on the workshop agenda. Staff will provide communications and ask for public input on these items.
  • Recreation Centers. A Council member requested this discussion of recreation centers. Council acknowledged that citizens have been requesting this but believe there should be a needs assessment prior to putting costs to any possible facility. Council discussed what types of amenities citizens would want in a facility and that the definition of a recreation center varies by person. The amenities provided would impact the cost of such a facility. Council directed staff to perform an inventory of current public and private recreation amenities available in the City and return to Council for discussion.
  • Term Limits. A Councilmember brought forward legislation to limit the terms of elected officials (Council and Mayor) to two terms with one partial term included. That would permit a member who was appointed to serve a partial unexpired term to then be elected to two consecutive terms. This will move forward as legislation for Council’s vote. If passed, it would go to the electors on the November ballot.
