Council Workshop Highlights from July 27, 2021

Council Highlights

HUDSON, OH (July 27, 2021) – Following is a summary of the July 27 City Council Workshop. To watch the full meeting, visit

Council Comments

  • Planning Commission had a meeting that discussed a zoning change requested by American Fireworks. It will go through the standard review process by PC.
  • Council wanted to let people know about the recent Hudson Headlines video that was posted on social media about recycling. It had great information that the public might be interested in. It is on the City’s website and on the City’s Facebook page.
  • The Environmental Awareness Committee listened to a representative from Waste Management about recycling. Education is the best way to change behavior for proper recycling.
  • There will be a Cemetery event the night before Halloween. More information will be coming. The Cemetery Committee is looking at their future needs in advance of the City’s budget process that will begin in August.

Discussion Items

  • Hudson Public Works Facility
    • The City’s Data Team explored short and long-term options for a new public works facility, including a cost analysis over 50 years, the average life of a new building. Options explored included continuing to lease at Georgetown and keep our equipment stored outside, buy the building at Georgetown, and build new without Hudson Public Power. They looked at operational efficiencies, own vs. rent scenarios and the ultimate estimated costs of renting vs. owning. Council directed staff to keep Hudson Public Power and Public Works facilities separate for now and that staff should start looking for a property large enough to build a new Public Works facility with enough room to expand for a yard or additional facility in the future. Staff will come back to Council with more information on that direction.
  • Short-Term Rentals
    • Council discussed some concerns regarding the recent legislation regarding short-term rentals in Hudson. Staff noted the concerns and will review and return to Council with recommendations.
