Council Workshop Highlights from September 27, 2022

City Council Highlights Logo

Following is a summary of Tuesday’s City Council Workshop. To watch the full meeting, visit

Recognition of Visitors from Landsberg, Germany

  • Council recognized visitors from Landsberg, Germany’s City Council. Landsberg is Hudson’s Sister City. The Landsberg group will be in Hudson for the week.

Correspondence and Council Comments

  • Council has received emails from residents wanting more senior services in the community. Council corrected misinformation that is being disseminated by email to residents regarding a senior center. There is no proposal before for Council for establishing a senior center, nor is Council currently in discussion about a senior center.
  • Council received a resident concern about poor lighting on Morse Road between Owen Brown Street and Prospect Street. Would like to see better lighting in that area.
  • A Council member asked for a discussion about adding lights on the greens along the walking paths.
  • Council thanked the family of Vincent Baran for their work in the community.
  • Prior to renovations at the Boy Scout Cabin, two trees that were leaning over the cabin have been removed and a Maple tree that is dying was also removed. New trees will be planted to replace the trees that were removed.

Discussion Items

  • Guidance Rules for the Use of Space at City Hall and at Other City Properties. Council discussed fees and a 3-year lease for use of space on public properties. Council discussed the Boy Scout Cabin, leased by the Rotary, and used by the Boy Scouts. Staff will look into this item further with the City Solicitor and will revise the guidelines. Councilman Banweg will work with staff on amending the current proposed legislation and the issue will be discussed again by Council.
  • Resolution for the Purchase with PFUND Superior Sales for a New Ambulance. EMS is replacing their 1999 Freightliner/Horton Ambulance #4016. This unit has 130,000 miles.
  • Resolution to Purchase a Remount Ambulance from Excellence Inc. Since 2004, EMS has been replacing its Ambulances every 6 years, one every two years. This allows the EMS Department to control their repair costs as the drive train warranties are 5-year or 100,000 miles and at the same time keep the fleet reliable. EMS has chosen again to remount the Ambulance rather than replace the vehicle.
  • Preliminary 2023 – 2027 Five-Year Plan Review.  Council reviewed the General Fund, Roads, Service, Cemetery, Parks, HCTV, Fire & EMS budgets.

Future Agenda Items

  • Proclamation for Colonial Heritage Month will be on the October 3 agenda.
