No Shave November began as an effort by the Hudson Police Department to raise cancer awareness by embracing the hair that many cancer patients lose during treatment. This year, the Hudson Police Department (HPD) put down their razors and raised money for the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society's Grave Marker Project and the Joshua T. Miktarian Memorial Scholarship Fund. HPD extended the program to run from October 2022 through March 2023.
Officers donated to the effort if they wanted to grow a beard from October through March of next year. In addition to police officers, other staff at HPD, such as the dispatchers and administration, donated to ditch their uniforms for HPD shirts or hoodies on Fridays. As a result, HPD collected $3,500 and split the funds between the two chosen charities.
“This is fun way to raise money for two important causes,” said Police Chief Perry Tabak. “We had nearly 100% participation, and I appreciate everyone who participated in No Shave November to help us give back to the community.”
About the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society's Grave Marker Project
In an effort to pay special tribute to and increase public awareness of the sacrifice made by our fallen heroes, the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society® (GCPOMS) embarked on a campaign to place specially designed markers on the graves of those officers from Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina and northern Summit counties who have died in the line of duty. Additionally, any law enforcement officer who died in the line of duty while serving with Law Enforcement agencies outside of our area and are buried in our region will also be afforded this honor. About the Joshua T. Miktarian Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Officer Joshua T. Miktarian Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to carry on Officer Joshua Miktarian’s dedication to the field of Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. Three scholarships are awarded on an annual basis to a graduating student from Twinsburg High School, Tallmadge High School, and Lake Local High School due to Officer Miktarian’s link to those communities. Officer Miktarian proudly served the community of Twinsburg as a police officer for eleven years and the Uniontown Police Department Part-Time. Officer Miktarian was also a long-time resident of Tallmadge, graduating from Tallmadge High School in 1993. Learn more here.
