[ARCHIVED] Council Meeting Highlights from February 1, 2022

Council Highlights

Following is a summary of the February 1, 2022 City Council Meeting. To watch the meeting, visit www.hudson.oh.us/WatchMeetings

Honorary Resolution

  • Resolution honoring Kent State University School of Emerging Media & Technology (EMAT), HCTV, and the HCTV Advisory Committee for the launch of the HCTV web-based app.

Proclamation

  • Proclamation encouraging citizens to perform acts of kindness during Random Acts of Kindness Week February 13-19, 2022.

Public Comments

  • None.

Council Comments

  • Council congratulated the Hudson 6th grade basketball team for a great job.
  • Council requested staff provide information for the mailbox replacement policy discuss regarding how the mailboxes are damaged.
  • Council mentioned citizen comments about cameras in the police dispatch center. The City Manager commented that many city buildings have surveillance cameras and police wear body cams. There are cameras throughout City Hall and many public buildings. It is not uncommon for cameras to be placed in public facilities, including police and fire.
  • Tree Commission has changed its meeting schedule to odd number months. It is working on Arbor Day festivities and is reaching out to the EAC to coordinate a possible Earth Day/Arbor Day event. The Garden Club will hold its Home and Garden Tour on June 17 and 18 and is planning for next year which is their 75th anniversary.
  • The Merry Mulch program is running behind schedule due to the recent snowstorms.
  • Council commended Jack Brookhart for his service to the Environmental Awareness Committee. He has resigned due to his travel schedule.
  • Council is seeking members for BZBA, Planning Commission, Cemetery Board, HCTV Advisory Committee, and a resident from Ward 1 for Planning Commission. Applications will be accepted through February 10 at 4:30 pm.
  • Council hopes that with the current nature of social media and tempers elevated, that citizens think of Random Acts of Kindness Week and focus on doing something nice for someone else.

City Manager’s Report

  • HCTV continues to explore innovative technology to spread the station’s viewership.  Several years ago, cable TV viewership was declining due to people cutting the cord. HCTV went to High-Definition in order to live stream so all residents could view its programing, not just cable subscribers. They added robotic cameras that came in handy during COVID and now have added a web-based app.
  • The City is closely monitoring the coming storm. Treating the roads is a dilemma because pre-treating doesn’t work with rain. We are considering a parking ban tomorrow morning. We encourage residents not to venture out on Thursday and perhaps even Friday.
  • Staff asked Council for feedback on the Council Retreat agenda. Retreat information. Administration needs feedback from Council.
  • Sidewalk on SR 303 by Hudson Commons and ACME Plaza are not shoveled. Staff indicated it is the responsibility of Hudson Commons to shovel the north side of the street.  It is the adjacent property owner’s responsibility to shovel sidewalks. Staff is checking on the ACME side of the street.  Administration will send a map to Council and the Mayor of which sidewalks our contractors clear.
