Conserving Water Can Help Lower Your Water and Sewer Bills

Water Hose

Follow these water saving tips to conserve water and help lower your water/sewer bills!

  • Water your lawn only when it needs it. If you step on your grass and it springs back up when you move, it doesn't need water. If it stays flat, it's ready for some water.
  • Try using a broom to clean walkways, driveways, decks, and other surfaces instead of hosing these areas off.
  • Wash the car with water from a bucket, or consider using a commercial car wash that recycles water.
  • Use a pool cover to reduce evaporation when the pool is not being used.

  • Install a low-flow aerator on your sink's faucet.
  • Wash only full loads in the dishwasher.
  • If you need a new dishwasher, consider purchasing a water-saving model.
  • Use a dishpan for washing and rinsing dishes.
  • Scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading the dishwasher.

Did you know the bathroom is a major source of water usage in most homes? Check out these water saving tips:

  • Install low-flow showerheads.
  • Replace older, larger-use toilets with the newer, higher efficiency toilets.
  • Don't let the water run while shaving/brushing teeth.
  • Don't pour water down the drain when there may be another use for it such as watering a plant or garden.
  • Repair all leaks (anywhere there is plumbing, not just the bathroom). A leaky toilet can waste 200 gallons per day.

  • Wash only full loads of clothes.
  • Use the appropriate water level or load size selection on the washing machine.
  • When buying a new washer, consider purchasing a water-saving model.
