Hudson Boards and Commissions Critical to Local Government Process

Town Hall NF

You’ve probably seen various announcements referencing a Park Board decision, public hearings coming up at Planning Commission, events the Environmental Awareness Committee is holding to promote recycling, and more. What exactly are all these Boards and Commissions, and why are they important?

City of Hudson Boards and Commissions Overview

The City of Hudson appoints more than 85 people to the more than 14 boards and commissions that advise and assist in carrying out the functions of local government. Most boards and commissions are created by City resolution or ordinance and serve as advisory bodies to City Council. They provide information, analysis, and recommendations to inform City Council’s decision on matters pertaining to the board or commission’s specialized knowledge. A few boards, like Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning and Building Appeals, have specific authority to make binding decisions in certain areas.

City Council makes appointments throughout the year as vacancies occur or terms expire. These positions are volunteer/non-paid. Each board and commission has unique requirements in terms of time commitment and preparation. To learn about the mission and duties of each board and commission, visit our website here.

Why Should I Apply?

Each board and commission plays an important part in City government. Being a board/commission member is an opportunity to use your education, experience, skills, and background to make a lasting impact on the future of Hudson. It’s also a great way to learn more about the inner workings of the City from behind the scenes.

Am I Eligible to Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must have been a Hudson resident for at least two years. Only registered voters are considered for openings.
