Join the Friends of Hudson Parks for family-friendly summer activities! Children and adults alike can find plenty to do while enjoying Hudson’s parks.
Geocaching Adventure
From April 1 through November 30, 2023, explore our parks while embarking on an adventure! Local geocaching experts Bill and Sue Holman—aka the Muddy Dawgs—have been busy designing and hiding creative and challenging caches for the Friends of Hudson Parks’ 2023 Geocaching Adventure. Six new caches and a bonus will be placed to highlight six different parks. Participants who successfully find all six caches and the bonus will earn a chance to win a prize. For more information, visit www.geocaching.com and search for the user name “FriendsOfHudsonParks.” There also is a link to all the Friends’ caches on the Friends website at www.friendsofhudsonparks.org.
Playground Palooza
From April 22 through August 31, 2023, explore our parks while collecting playground area symbols in your passport! Visit seven Hudson Park playgrounds plus the splash pad at Veterans Way and the Hudson Springs butterfly garden. Complete your Passport by finding that playground area’s symbol post and rubbing each symbol with a crayon or pencil into your Passport, with the date you visited there. The first 100 participants to submit completed Passports by August 31 win a free “flashlight” to celebrate the accomplishment!
Story Walks
The Hudson Story Walks, jointly sponsored by the Friends of Hudson Parks and Hudson Community Education & Recreation (HCER), are located at Veterans Way Park and Bicentennial Woods. Enjoy a stroll through one of these parks while reading a book at the same time. The Veterans Way walk features The Kindness Book. The Bicentennial Woods walk tells the story of The Happy Tree and the Bee. New stories will be coming soon!
Kayak and Stand-Up Paddleboard Lessons
Entry level paddleboard and kayak classes will be offered Saturdays in July from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at Hudson Springs Park. Experienced boarders and kayakers will also benefit. Safety training, instruction and equipment will be provided by Kent State University RecWell Adventure Center. Registration is now open and the link can be found at www.friendsofhudsonparks.org.
