After three years of collaboration with the Norfolk Southern Railroad Corporation, Hudson City Council, and the Federal Railroad Administration, the City of Hudson has established a quiet zone from Hines Hill Road to Stow Road.
The Stow Road and Hines Hill Road Quiet Zones will include the design, coordination with Norfolk Southern Railroad Corporation and construction of new quiet zones consisting of low profile, concrete medians with reflective delineators posted on top of the medians on Stow Road and Hines Hill Road. The project requires the closure of each road for five consecutive days, beginning the week of October 16, 2023. Click here to see the Hines Hill Road detour routes and Stow Road detour routes for the duration of the project.
A quiet zone is a section of a rail line at least one-half mile in length that contains one or more consecutive public highway-rail grade crossings at which locomotive horns are not routinely sounded when trains are approaching the crossing.
Trains are set to cease sounding their horns in advance of these crossings, but may still sound them in emergency situations.
The next phase of this project will begin on Stow Road with a closure beginning the week of October 23, 2023, weather dependent.
